Mushroom sits between gray and brown, and the dirty version leans earthy and lived-in. This Rancher puts it on a midweight felt of wool. The crown is pinched into a western teardrop, 4 1/8 in tall. Brim: 3 1/2 in all around. There's no band, just bare felt, and an adjustable velcro sweatband inside. It's imported and comes in SM, MD and LG. Olive, rust and denim are its natural partners on a fall weekend.

Walt's tip: Between sizes? Size up and let the velcro sweatband take in the difference. A hat should fit like a handshake: firm, not a fight.
