Our editors write under pen names. Articles are researched with AI tools, then fact-checked and edited by the MyHatFinder team.
What a pen name means here
Each editor is a voice and a desk. Cody, Walt, Jessica and Margo have personalities, opinions and a sense of humor, but no invented hometowns, credentials or stories about hats they’ve worn. When a real contributor joins, they may take over a desk under its pen name, and we’ll say so.
The desks
- Cody Hale runs cowboy hats: styles, creases, black and brown hats, and rodeo and concert picks.
- Walt Mercer keeps felt, fit and care: sizing, X ratings, cleaning, shaping and hat etiquette.
- Jessica Reyes runs women’s hats: cowgirl hats, straw and sun hats, outfit formulas, weddings and bachelorettes.
- Margo Lane keeps straw and sun hats: wide brims, Panamas, fedoras, packable and travel hats.
How an article gets made
- We start with the questions people actually ask, from search data and from what shows up in Google’s “People also ask.”
- We research the answer with AI tools and gather sources: the hat makers’ own care and sizing pages, the store’s product data, and reference works for history.
- A person on the MyHatFinder team checks every fact against those sources and edits the piece in the editor’s voice.
- Sources are listed at the bottom of every guide. Product details come only from the store’s data.
What we never do
No fake reviews, no star ratings we didn’t get from the store, no “we tested this” when we didn’t. Takes on individual hats are labeled “Researched, not tested.”
