A trail hat in brown goes with khaki shorts, olive pants and muddy boots, and it doesn't look worn out after a dusty day. This one has a soakable liner inside a polyester and lightweight mesh body. The outback crown measures 3 3/4 in, the brim 2 3/4 in. Per its listing, it carries a sun protection rating of 50 and resists water, and it has an adjustable chin cord. Which size of the Soaker should I get?
Measure your head where the hat sits and match it to the chart. SM fits heads 21 to 21 7/8 in (54 to 55 cm) on American Hat Makers' chart. 3X fits heads 25 to 25 5/8 in (64 to 65 cm) on American Hat Makers' chart. Between sizes, American Hat Makers says to size up and use the foam insert it includes.
Is the Soaker UPF rated?
Yes. The store lists a UPF 50 rating. The Skin Cancer Foundation says UPF 50 fabric blocks 98 percent of the sun's rays. Sunscreen still goes on the bits the brim misses.
Can you travel with the Soaker?
Wear it on travel days. It isn't listed as packable, so it shouldn't go folded in a suitcase. On a plane, set it crown down in the overhead bin with nothing on top.
