A costume hat that looks flimsy drags the whole outfit down with it. This Cavalier is cut from heavyweight cowhide in plain black, with no band at all, so the shape does the talking. The brim spreads 4 1/2 in and the crown rises 5 in, which gives you the broad, rakish outline people picture when they say pirate. A Velcro sweatband sits inside for fit. It is assembled in the USA, and it suits a ship's captain costume, a stage role or a fair weekend.
