Silverbelly is that pale, warm off-white the old cowboy movies gave to the hero, and it still reads clean and confident. It goes with a white shirt, a navy blazer, starched jeans and polished boots. This one is midweight Australian wool felt, creased cattleman-style to a crown at 4 1/2 in, a 4 in brim, and a felt band with a silver buckle. SM through XL, velcro sweatband. Imported.

Cody's tip: Light felt is a dirt magnet. Wash your hands before you crease it and brush it counterclockwise after.

How should it fit?
Level on your head, about a finger above your eyebrows, clearing the tops of your ears. Sizes in stock run SM to XL. SM fits heads 21 to 21 7/8 in (54 to 55 cm) on American Hat Makers' chart. Between sizes, size up and add an insert.
Can you wear the Cattleman in summer?
You can, at night shows, weddings and anywhere air-conditioned, but felt runs warm on a hot afternoon. Tradition puts felt from Labor Day to Memorial Day and straw in between, per Resistol.
Does it pack flat?
The store doesn't list it as packable, so don't fold it. Folding can leave a permanent crease. Wear it when you travel, or set it crown down in the overhead bin.
How do you clean the Cattleman?
Brush felt with a soft hat brush, counterclockwise, and lift lint with a barely damp cloth or a lint roller. Keep it away from heat, which can shrink felt, and store it on its crown so the brim keeps its shape.
