Chocolate brown might be the most forgiving cowboy hat color on earth. It hides dust, plays nice with denim and makes tan boots look like a plan. The Deputy is wool felt with a 5 in gus-shaped crown that slopes toward the back, plus a 4 in curled cattleman brim. Velcro in the sweatband adjusts the fit, and it's imported. Felt shines in cooler weather, so this one's built for crisp mornings at the arena, Thanksgiving with the in-laws and every football Friday after September.

Cody's tip: Brush the felt counterclockwise with a soft hat brush after a dusty day. Dust on chocolate shows up quicker than you'd think.

Level on your head, about a finger above your eyebrows, clearing the tops of your ears. Sizes in stock run SM to XL. SM fits heads 21 to 21 7/8 in (54 to 55 cm) on American Hat Makers' chart. Between sizes, size up and add an insert.

Can you wear the Deputy in summer?
