Brown hides trail dust better than black and stays darker than eggshell, which makes it the practical middle child of this lineup. It's polyester and lightweight mesh with a liner made for soaking, a 3 3/4 in outback crown and a 2 3/4 in brim. The listing gives it a sun protection rating of 50 and says it resists water. You also get an adjustable chin cord, a braided band with a tassel and a removable Velcro sweatband. SM to 3X, assembled in the USA.

Margo's tip: Set it on its crown in the shade to dry after soaking the liner. Sun-baking a wet hat is a fine way to warp the brim.

Which size of the Soaker should I get?
Measure your head where the hat sits and match it to the chart. SM fits heads 21 to 21 7/8 in (54 to 55 cm) on American Hat Makers' chart. 3X fits heads 25 to 25 5/8 in (64 to 65 cm) on American Hat Makers' chart. Between sizes, American Hat Makers says to size up and use the foam insert it includes.
Is the Soaker UPF rated?
Yes. The store lists a UPF 50 rating. The Skin Cancer Foundation says UPF 50 fabric blocks 98 percent of the sun's rays. Sunscreen still goes on the bits the brim misses.
Can you travel with the Soaker?
