Leather runs warm in the heat, and this one mixes in mesh. The Breeze pairs lightweight cowhide in bomber brown with polyester mesh, shaped as an outback with a 3 3/4 in crown and a 2 3/4 in brim. AHM lists a sun protection rating of 50 and says it resists water. A braided band of faux leather with a tassel at the side and an adjustable chin cord finish it. Sizes run SM to 3X with an AHM velcro sweatband, assembled in the USA.

Margo's tip: The brim is shorter than most sun hats, so add a neck gaiter or sunscreen if you'll be out at noon.

How should it fit?
Level on your head, about a finger above your eyebrows, clearing the tops of your ears. Sizes in stock run SM to 3X. SM fits heads 21 to 21 7/8 in (54 to 55 cm) on American Hat Makers' chart. Between sizes, size up and add an insert.
Is the Breeze UPF rated?
Yes. The store lists a UPF 50 rating. The Skin Cancer Foundation says UPF 50 fabric blocks 98 percent of the sun's rays. Sunscreen still goes on the bits the brim misses.
Does it pack flat?
The store doesn't list it as packable, so don't fold it. Folding can leave a permanent crease. Wear it when you travel, or set it crown down in the overhead bin.
How do you care for a leather hat like the Breeze?
Wipe it with a soft, barely damp cloth and let it dry away from heat, which can stiffen and crack leather. A leather conditioner keeps it supple; test it inside the crown first. Never machine-wash it.
