Sun hats don't have to look like beach gear. This one takes the cowgirl route: natural Mexican palm, midweight and firm, with a cowboy crown 4 1/2 in high and a 4 1/4 in brim. Three metal eyelets on the crown are there for ventilation, and conchos set on faux leather give it some Western polish. The sweatband is elastic. It's a strong pick for summer festivals, ranch weddings and long days outdoors, in SM to XL.

Margo's tip: If straw gets wet, set it crown-down and let it dry on its own. A hair dryer is not a friend here.

Measure your head where the hat sits and match it to the chart. SM fits heads 21 to 21 7/8 in (54 to 55 cm) on American Hat Makers' chart. XL fits heads 23 5/8 to 24 1/4 in (60 to 61 cm) on American Hat Makers' chart. Between sizes, American Hat Makers says to size up and use the foam insert it includes.
