Black straw is rarer than tan, and it makes a straw hat look a little more serious. The Coyote is Bangora straw with a cattleman crown at 4 1/4 in and a matching 4 1/4 in brim, a broad edge that covers the face and the back of the neck. Two stacked layers of faux leather form the band, and a concho sets it off. The sweatband is elastic, and the hat is imported. Bring it to a summer rodeo, a long ride or a late-afternoon concert with a pearl snap shirt and jeans.

Margo's tip: On scorching days, rest in the shade between rides and keep the hat off the dashboard, where heat can warp straw.

Measure your head where the hat sits and match it to the chart. SM fits heads 21 to 21 7/8 in (54 to 55 cm) on American Hat Makers' chart.
