Charcoal is the dressier of the grays, and it suits a city coat as well as a barn jacket. The Jude in charcoal is wool felt, flat-topped, with a short 1 7/8 in bill. An inner drawstring lets you adjust the fit, and it is imported. Pair it with a dark overcoat and a scarf on a cold commute, or with a fisherman's sweater on a damp harbor walk.

Brush felt with a soft hat brush, counterclockwise, and lift lint with a barely damp cloth or a lint roller. Keep it away from heat, which can shrink felt, and store it on its crown so the brim keeps its shape.
