Fine Mexican palm is a midweight straw with a tight, tidy weave, and the Cozumel uses it for a simple sun hat shape. The crown sits at 4 in and the brim at 3 in, enough to keep the sun off your face during a walk on the beach or an afternoon of yard work. A band of brown faux leather, fastened with a brass crosspiece pin, breaks up the natural straw. The sweatband is elastic, and it is imported. Pair it with a camp shirt and shorts and you are dressed for most of July.

Margo's tip: A 3 in brim covers the face but leaves the neck partly exposed in afternoon sun, so turn your back to the light when you can.
