Toquilla is the straw Panama hats are known for, and here it has been handwoven into a cowboy shape. The cream crown stands 4 1/2 in with a cowboy curl along a 4 1/4 in brim, which is a good deal of shade for the face and neck. A black grosgrain ribbon gives a sharp line between crown and brim. The sweatband adjusts with Velcro. It is imported. Straw is the warm-weather pick, so this one belongs to summer rodeos, county fairs and long afternoons outside.

Margo's tip: Handwoven straw dislikes being crushed, so lift it by the crown with a light hand and keep it out of a hot trunk.

Level on your head, about a finger above your eyebrows, clearing the tops of your ears. Sizes in stock run SM to XL. SM fits heads 21 to 21 7/8 in (54 to 55 cm) on American Hat Makers' chart. Between sizes, size up and add an insert.
