Our take · Researched, not tested

A gold rooster for your hat. Somebody has to wake up the outfit.

By Walt Mercer, felt, fit and care desk Pen name, fact-checked by our team

A small gold rooster with a proud, regal posture, made to sit on the side of your crown. It attaches by magnet, so it goes on and comes off without a pin hole in your felt or straw. That makes it easy to move from a weekday hat to a weekend one. A brown felt or a plain straw cowboy gives the gold the right backdrop.

Walt's tip: Set it on the band toward the front of one side, where it catches light without crowding the crease.
