Our take · Researched, not tested

A red Fire Dept pin for the people who run toward the smoke.

By Walt Mercer, felt, fit and care desk Pen name, fact-checked by our team

Plenty of families have a firefighter in them, and a small pin is a quiet way to say you're proud of yours. The Fire Dept pin comes in red and attaches with a backing magnet, so it holds on a hat or on clothing without poking a hole. Wear it on a ball cap at a station open house or on a jacket at a fundraiser.

Walt's tip: At a memorial or a ceremony, keep the pin on and take the hat off. The hat comes off for respect, the pin stays for pride.
