Weathered cotton has a soft, lived-in look, and in black it hides the dirt from a day outdoors. The Hood is 100% cotton shaped as an outback, with a 4 in crown and a 2 1/2 in brim. A stitched band with a crosspiece circles the crown, and the sweatband adjusts with Velcro. It is imported. The smaller brim makes it easy to wear under trees and in a crowd, so it suits a camping trip, a concert in the park or a day at the fair.

Margo's tip: A shorter brim leaves your neck in the sun. On a long open hike, add sunscreen or a neck gaiter.
