Our take · Researched, not tested

A silver eagle head that holds on with a magnet.

By Walt Mercer, felt, fit and care desk Pen name, fact-checked by our team

An eagle is about as American as a hat pin gets. This one is made of silver with fine detail in the head, and it attaches with a small backing magnet, so it can sit on a hat band or a lapel without making a hole. It suits a felt cowboy hat, a leather top hat or a sport coat for a dressier occasion.

Walt's tip: Silver looks best against dark felt or leather. On a pale straw, it tends to fade into the background.
