Our take · Researched, not tested

A little devil wrapped in black plonge, sold as the band alone.

By Walt Mercer, felt, fit and care desk Pen name, fact-checked by our team

Here's the band by itself, no hat attached. Its centerpiece is a small character AHM calls Evil, done up in black plonge leather. Put it on a plain hat and you add some mischief without going full costume. Black leather sits easily on a dark crown, so the little guy ends up being the only thing that stands out. It's listed as one size.

Walt's tip: Measure around the base of your hat's crown before ordering, since you're fitting the band to a hat you already own.

Questions

How do you care for a leather hat like the Lil Evil?

Wipe it with a soft, barely damp cloth and let it dry away from heat, which can stiffen and crack leather. A leather conditioner keeps it supple; test it inside the crown first. Never machine-wash it.

Can you return it?

Per American Hat Makers, as stated on their site Nov 6, 2026, it offers 90-day easy returns. Policies change, so confirm on the store's page before you order.

Do you sell this?

No. American Hat Makers sells it. The store button opens their product page, and we earn a commission if you buy, at no cost to you.
