Our take · Researched, not tested

The cheapest way to keep a felt hat looking like a felt hat.

By Walt Mercer, felt, fit and care desk Pen name, fact-checked by our team

Dust settles into felt the way it settles on a mantel, and a soft brush is the oldest fix there is. This deluxe brush is made for felt hats and clears the surface quickly. Use it after any outing where the hat met road dust, pet hair or a barn. A quick pass after each wear beats one big cleaning session later.

Walt's tip: Brush counterclockwise around the hat with light strokes. Go with the nap, never scrub against it.
